Barclays Girls’ Football School Partnerships

BARCLAYS GIRLS’ FOOTBALL SCHOOLS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH GLOUCESTER SCHOOL SPORTS NETWORK

The Barclays Girls’ Football School Partnership will continue delivering crucial work to support the development of girls’ football in schools for at least another three years after the bank extended its partnership with the FA until 2028.

Since 2019, 3.8 million girls have been empowered to play football in schools through Barclays Girls’ Football In Schools, proving that football is for everyone and showing girls, they can achieve anything.

This is more than just football, The FA and Barclays want to create a cultural shift that ensures girls see themselves as leaders, champions, and equals.

Whether you’re a teacher looking at how you can bring or grow girls’ football in you school or a parent looking at ways your daughter can get involved, we can support.

In Gloucester we now have regular football leagues and cups for Key Stage 2 girls, thanks to Bob Owen and his team of volunteers.

We also run GSSN festivals for our Key Stage 1 girls with over 20 school taking part across the year .Adding up to over 200 girls playing and enjoying a positive football experience. Delivered by girls for girls.

This national programme brings so much to millions already, but we’re taking it one step further in schools, to show the real power of football through Barclays Game On.

From Leah Williamson’s leadership skills as England’s captain, to the continuous resilience shown by the Lionesses throughout their 2025 EUROs victory campaign, these are examples of how football develops both the person and the performer.

We are using football as the tool in secondary schools across England. Our aim is to develop and teach key life skills and demonstrate how they are transferrable outside of school in everyday life.

This is where the Game On’s extra-curricular elements really shine a light on all the opportunities available to girls to get involved with football. From coaches to marketeers – they can run, organise, and deliver sessions for their classmates, not only introducing more girls to football, but also developing themselves for the future.

In Gloucester we have trained over 200 ‘Go Lead’ students from 8 local secondary schools. These girls’ are now planning and delivering sessions and clubs within their schools for over 1000 girls.

They have all been challenged to put on their own in-house festival for local feeder primary schools. Which 5 secondary schools have already achieved.

You have to see it to be it – Lionesses Power to inspire a nation!
