Bringing schools and partners together for over 25 years
The Gloucester School Sport Network has been bringing schools and partners together for over 25 years, developing opportunities for children and young people across Gloucester to experience worthwhile, enjoyable and high-quality PE, school sport and physical activity.
Our aim is to support schools, develop opportunities and connect the local school sport community. By working collaboratively, we can achieve more together than individual schools could achieve alone.
We work across primary, secondary and SEND settings, providing opportunities for pupils while also supporting teachers, schools and young leaders.
PRIMARY SCHOOLS
We work closely with primary schools across Gloucester to provide a year-round programme of opportunities and support.
We provide our schools with:
- Professional Development – in-house whole-school support and CPD opportunities outside of school.
- Specialist Curriculum Support – including gymnastics, dance, archery, yoga, physical literacy and a range of team games.
- Competitions, Festivals & Participation Events – a year-round programme providing opportunities for children of different ages, abilities and interests to participate, compete and experience success.
- SEND & Inclusive Opportunities – dedicated festivals and events throughout the year, providing meaningful opportunities for pupils with SEND to participate and enjoy school sport.
Our programme continues to develop in response to the needs and priorities of our schools.
SECONDARY SCHOOL PARTNERS
Our secondary schools are an integral part of the GSSN partnership.
We work closely with local secondary schools who host and support a number of GSSN events, helping to create opportunities across the wider school sport community.
Student Leadership
Student leadership opportunities are highly valued across our partner schools, with many now embedding leadership modules within their PE curriculum.
Through GSSN, secondary students have the opportunity to put their leadership skills into practice by supporting the organisation and delivery of events for younger pupils across Gloucester. This provides valuable practical experience while developing confidence, communication, organisation and teamwork.
UNIVERSITY OF GLOUCESTERSHIRE PARTNERS
We work in partnership with the University of Gloucestershire to provide valuable opportunities for students studying sports coaching, education and event management.
These include:
- Volunteering opportunities across the GSSN calendar of events.
- Placement opportunities working alongside Primary PE Specialists in local schools.
- Opportunities for students to gain practical experience in coaching, education and event management.
Students can access volunteering opportunities through the University of Gloucestershire Job Shop and the GSSN events calendar.

GSSN is more than a programme of competitions and events. We are a local school sport partnership, bringing together schools, specialist expertise and partners to create opportunities that benefit children and young people across Gloucester.
Our team brings together expertise across school sport, PE, inclusion, leadership, events, professional development and specialist provision.
We value the relationships we have built with schools and partners and will continue to listen, collaborate and respond to local needs as the school sport landscape evolves.
