SUMMARY:SEND FESTIVAL OF SPORT
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to offer our affiliated schools the opportunity to bring a group of 10 SEND pupils to take part in our SEND Multi-sport festival.  \nTHE TEAMS\nThis competition is for SEND primary-aged children (KS1 and KS2).\nEach group should be made up of 10 students of mixed gender with cognitive or physical disabilities.\n\nEVENT LEAD\nThe GSSN staff will be leading this event with the support of Gloucester Academy School Sport Leaders.\n\nEVENT FORMAT\nThe pupils will take part in a  range of activities which will include: New Age Kurling\, Boccia\, New Age Bowling\, target shooting and table tennis. \nBoccia is an attack-defend game\, with two sides competing over a set number of ends. The aim is to score as many points as possible by placing their set of coloured balls closest to the white jack ball. \nNew-Age Bowls is an easy-to-play version of the traditional game of bowls that has been adapted to make it fun and accessible to any players of any age or ability. \nNew-Age Kurling is a sport that requires participants to deliver stones from one end of a court to a target at the other end of the court.\nSEND events are aimed specifically at SEND students. There is an expectation that participants DO NOT compete for the school in any other non-SEND linked sport. The emphasis should be on encouraging participation for ALL young people\, particularly those that do not usually get an opportunity to represent their school.  \nPlease email bh@gssn.co.uk if you would like to join us on what will be a fun\, active day.

We are excited to announce that due to the overwhelming interest from schools wanting to participate in our Dance Festival\, we have added an extra night to the schedule.  \nAll schools are invited to bring along a group of children to perform a wither a dance or an additional performing arts acts.\nThe GSSN Dance Show celebrates participation\, creativity\, confidence and enjoyment\, providing pupils with the opportunity to perform and showcase their talents in a positive\, supportive and inspiring environment. The event begins with an afternoon rehearsal\, giving each group the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the stage\, lighting and music before performing in front of family and friends during the evening performance. \nThe Festival Format\n16.00 Groups arrive for briefing and on-stage rehearsal (including music and lighting).\n18.00 Doors open. Tickets available on the door. There are no limitations on the number of pupils and/or groups each school can bring. \nThis Festival will provide a fantastic opportunity for your pupils to experience the excitement of preparing for a stage show and then being given a ‘performance platform’. \nThe Festival Format\n16.00 School dance groups arrive. DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to offer your school the opportunity to take part in our first debating competition. You will be debating on the question below. \n“Is the commonwealth relevant in today’s society?” \nThe Primary school’s event will be open to year 5 and 6 pupils\, taking place from 10.00-12.00 on Thursday 12th May at the University Indoor Arena\, Plock Court GL2 9DW.  \nThe competition format will include an initial proposal followed by an opposing response; one further round of proposal and response followed by questions from the floor and judging panel. (Each proposal/response will be no longer than 2 minutes). Indicate preferred session (AM KS1 and/or PM KS2); the name of the teacher responsible for this event and contact details. \nEvent Lead\nThe Panathlon Challenge team is supporting the GSSN with the running of the event. \nThe Teams\nThis competition is for boys and girls from KS2\, all of whom have a Special Educational Need or Disability. \nTeams must be mixed and consist of 8 young people. \nSEND competitions are aimed specifically at SEND students. There is an expectation that participants DO NOT compete for the school in any other non-SEND linked sport.  The emphasis should be on encouraging participation for ALL young people\, particularly those that do not usually get an opportunity to represent their school. \nFestival Format\nThis event is a series of skills stations based on inclusive sports such as Basketball\, Boccia\, Football\, New Age Kurling\, and Table Top Cricket. Others include activities that are aimed at developing key fundamentals such as running\, jumping\, throwing\, and target-based games. \nEach team must collect points from each activity station. Specific Panathlon Challenge Medals will be awarded for 1st Gold\, 2nd Silver\, and 3rd Bronze (overall team).  \nThere are also participation medals for teams in 4th\, 5th\, and 6th… etc.
