SUMMARY:KS1 GIRLS TAG RUGBY FESTIVAL
DESCRIPTION:This is a fun introduction to tag rugby in a girl’s only environment. There will be a range of activities set up for the girls to practise the core skills of catch\, pass\, run\, the introduction of tag as a tackle and learn what a game of Tag Rugby is.  A fun\, safe and inclusive environment\, allowing individual’s to enjoy the fundamentals of rugby whilst developing personal and social skills. Last year’s event saw over 200 girls taking part! A huge success! \nEVENTS OVERVIEW\nKS2: Wed 21st October\nKS1: Thurs 22nd October\n9.30 – 11.30 \nVENUE\nGordon League\nHempsted Lane\, Gloucester\nGL2 5JN \nTHE TEAMS\nAs this is a skills based event schools are welcome to bring up to 30 girls\nin each of the Festivals. \nEVENT LEAD\nThe GSSN Staff along with Gordon League and  Ribston Hall High School Sport Leaders will be leading this event. \nGordon League Rugby Club\, located in Hempsted\, is excited to host schools for a fun\, friendly\, and safe Girls’ Rugby Festival\, aimed at inspiring young girls to stay active\, build confidence\, and develop a passion for rugby. Beyond the festival\, the club supports schools by offering free rugby coaching\, access to facilities\, and free memberships for pupils entitled to Free School Meals. As the first and only club on the south side of the city to provide “Girls-only Rugby” for primary school-aged girls and soon introducing T1 Rugby—a non-contact format created with World Rugby—Gordon League Rugby Club is committed to inclusivity and fostering the next generation of female rugby enthusiasts. DESCRIPTION:All schools are invited to our Cross Country Championships which is scheduled to take place in Holmleigh Park High School. \nThis year\, once again\, we will run two events: Small Schools’ Event: Wednesday 4th November and Large Schools’ Event: Thursday 5th November\nboth at Holmleigh Park High School\, from 9.30 – 13.30\nPlease take note of the earlier starting time at 9.30. We will finish by 13.30 on both days.\n\nQualification to County level: We will provide training sessions (dates TBC) for the top 15 boys and top 15 girls from the Year 5 and 6 races and the top 5 in the Year 4 races. These training sessions will take place at the Oxstalls playing fields next to the University Arena which is accessed via Plock Court (Tewkesbury Road). Athletes will be selected to represent Gloucester City as a combined team at the County final. \nEVENT LEAD \nThe GSSN staff will be leading this event with the support of Holmleigh Park High School Sport Leaders. \nTHE TEAMS\nThere are ten races split into five age categories for boys and girls to compete in\, both individually and as a team.\nA school team will consist of a minimum of 4 athletes in each of the races.\nA grater or fewer number of athletes can compete as individuals. \nRACE ORDER\n1st – Year 2 Boys followed by Year 2 Girls\n2nd – Year 3 Boys followed by Year 3 Girls\n3rd – Year 4 Boys followed by Year 4 Girls\n4th – Year 5 Boys followed by Year 5 Girls\n5th– Year 6 Boys followed by Year 6 Girls \nThe distances to be run will be approximately:\n– 1280m / 0.8 miles for Year 2\n– 1280m / 0.8 miles for Year 3\n– 1920m / 1.2 miles for Year 4\n– 2560m / 1.5 miles for Year 5\n– 2560m / 1.5 miles for Year 6 \nThe course is clearly marked out and the children will follow a hare around the course. \nFormat of the day\n9.30 Schools arrive / Registration\n10.00 First race: Year 2 Boys\n13.30 Winners’ presentations & schools depart \nRules\nEach competitor will be given a number on completion of the course. This number must be recorded on the envelope next to the competitor’s name by a member of staff and placed inside the envelope.\nThe lowest 4 (fastest) athlete’s scores in each race will count towards the school results.\nThe school with the lowest total when girls’ and boys’ results in each category are added up will be the overall winner.\nWhen the envelope has been completed for each race it must be totaled up and immediately handed into the results table for recording.\nBoys will run first in each age category\, Year 2 first\, Year 3 second\, and so on with the last race Year 6 girls.\nSchools are asked to wait for presentations at the end of all races.\nTrophies will be awarded to the top school in each gender combined age category and framed certificates to 2nd and 3rd.\nThe top 3 athletes boys and girls in each race will receive medals.\nAll participants will receive a certificate.\nSpikes are allowed\nPhotographs will be taken throughout this event. SUMMARY:PANATHLON DISABILITY / SEND SWIMMING COMPETITION
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to invite all Gloucester Primary Schools to take part in the Gloucester Schools’ SEND Panathlon Swim Competition. \nThe event will be held at Sir Thomas Rich’s School (GL2 0LF) from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. Schools should arrive between 9:30 am and 9:45 am to allow sufficient time for changing. Please do not arrive before 9:30 am\, as this coincides with the school’s busy morning arrival. \nTHE TEAMS\nThis competition is open to KS2 pupils with SEND. \nTeams should consist of 6–8 pupils of mixed gender with cognitive and/or physical disabilities. \nEVENT LEAD\nThe competition will be delivered by the Panathlon Foundation in partnership with the Gloucester School Sport Network (GSSN). Panathlon organises inclusive sporting events across the country\, providing opportunities for young people with SEND to enjoy competitive sport. \nEVENT FORMAT\nAll participants must be able to swim 10 metres\, with or without swimming aids. At the start of the competition\, each swimmer will be allocated points based on their disability to ensure fair competition. \nEach team must include two swimmers who can swim 25 metres unaided. All races are mixed in age\, gender and disability\, and trained leaders will be in the water to support participants where required. \nEvery competitor will receive a participation certificate and medal. Panathlon team medals will be awarded to the top three teams: \n🥇 Gold – 1st Place\n🥈 Silver – 2nd Place\n🥉 Bronze – 3rd Place \nSEND events are specifically designed for pupils with SEND who do not usually have the opportunity to represent their school in sport. Schools are therefore asked to select pupils who do not regularly compete in mainstream school sports\, ensuring the event remains inclusive and provides opportunities for those who would not normally take part. \nTo register your school’s attendance\, please email bh@gssn.co.uk.

Tickets available on the door. SUMMARY:KEY STEPS 1 GYMNASTICS COMPETITION
DESCRIPTION:All our schools are invited to take part in our Key Steps 1 Gymnastics Competition for Years 1 & 2. \nVENUE INFORMATION: Schools please use the Cotteswold Road schools’ car park entrance to access the sports hall – GL4 6RG \nTHE TEAMS\nThis competition is for students in Years 1\, and 2.\nTeams will be made up of 6 gymnasts (teams can be a mix of boys and girls).\nAll 6 gymnasts will compete\, with the top 5 scores counting towards the team score. \nTeams need to be made up of children who receive no more than 1 hour of community gymnastics club coaching per week  (including tumbling\,  cheerleading or any other form of gymnastics  sport /discipline). This is not a competition for gymnasts who already receive development coaching and perform in a competitive structure outside school. \n NB: The organisers will be reliant upon the professional discretion of schools to ensure this directive is adhered to. \nEVENT LEAD \nGlen Tharia\, Headteacher of Elmbridge Primary School will be supporting the GSSN staff with the delivery of this gymnastics competition. \nEVENT FORMAT \nFollowing the National Framework for Gymnastics\, this competition will adopt the Key Step 1 Gymnastics criteria.\nA floor sequence and bench will be performed. \nNo body management routine will be required.\nSchools to provide competitors’ names prior to the competition. SUMMARY:KS1 PANATHLON CHALLENGE
DESCRIPTION:We feel extremely fortunate to be able to collaborate with organisations such as Panathlon Challenge. Panathlon is a national charity which gives young people with disabilities and special educational needs every year the opportunity to take part in competitive sport. In 2022/23\, a record 62\,981 pupils participated in their events – either competitions held externally with other schools or in-school through our Virtual Programme. \nAll our affiliated schools will be able to send a group of SEND-registered children to the following events: \nEVENT OVERVIEW\nKS1 9.45 – 11.45\nKS2 12.30-14.30 \nTHE TEAMS\nThis competition is for SEND primary-aged children (KS1 and KS2).\nEntries are limited to a maximum of 6 students per school team.\nTeams must be mixed and consist of 8 young people. \nEVENT FORMAT \nThis event is a series of skills stations based on inclusive sports such as Boccia\, New-Age Kurling\, Football\, Basketball and Table Cricket. Others include activities that are aimed at developing key fundamentals such as running\, jumping\, throwing and target-based games. Each team must collect points from each activity station.\nAll competitors will receive a participation certificate and a special Panathlon medal. Position medals will be awarded to the overall team result—1st\, Gold\, 2nd Silver and 3rd Bronze. \nSEND events are aimed specifically at SEND students. There is an expectation that participants DO NOT compete for the school in any other non-SEND linked sport. SUMMARY:KEY STEPS 2 GYMNASTICS COMPETITION
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE TO THE PUBLISHED DATE IN OUR SPORTS HANDBOOK \nAll our schools are invited to take part in our Key Steps 2 Gymnastics Competition on Wednesday 10 February at Gloucester Academy (9.30-12.30) \nTHE TEAMS\nThis competition is for students in Years 3\, and 4.\nTeams will be made up of 6 gymnasts (teams can be a mix of boys and girls).\nAll 6 gymnasts will compete\, with the top 5 scores counting toward the team score. \nSchools wishing to send a team to this event\, please email bh@gssn.co.uk.\nTeams need to be made up of children who receive no more than 1 hour of community gymnastics club coaching per week (including tumbling\, cheerleading or any other form of gymnastics sport/discipline).. This is not a competition for gymnasts who already receive development coaching and perform in a competitive structure outside of school. NB: The organisers will be reliant upon the professional discretion of schools to ensure is adhered to. \nEVENT LEAD \nGlen Tharia\, Headteacher of Elmbridge Primary School will be supporting the GSSN staff with the delivery of this gymnastics competition.\nOfficiating: The event will be officiated by experienced gymnastics judges recruited through the Gloucestershire Schools Gymnastics Association. \nEVENT FORMAT \nFollowing the National Framework for Gymnastics\, this competition will adopt the Key Step 2 Gymnastics format.\nCompetitors will perform a floor sequence and a vault.\nA separate body management routine is not required\, however\, schools are encouraged to practice body management as part of their warm-up.\nThe vault height will be 90cms.\nSchools to provide competitors’ names prior to the competition. Please email entries to bh@gssn.co.uk \nN.B. Vaults may be performed with or without a springboard and may use a vaulting box or trestle table.\nThere are no extra marks for the use of a springboard. The quality of the vault and the control the gymnast has on the apparatus are the most important factors with regard to judging. It may be better for some gymnasts to perform the vault without the use of a springboard so that better control and tension can be maintained throughout the vault resulting in a higher score than would be achieved performing a vault using the springboard but having less control. \nDue to this event being held in a school indoor space\, and as we continue to reinforce the safeguarding policies within school settings\, parents/carers as spectators are not allowed to attend the event. DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to offer our schools the chance to participate in our fun Disney-Inspired Shooting Stars Football Festival. Many of your schools are now running clubs using the Disney shooting stars resources and this event will be a celebration for girls recently introduced to football. \nPlease encourage your girls to dress up as their favourite Disney character from the top upwards (no long dresses).\nMini mouse ears\, Princess crowns\, Dalmatian Spots – the choice is endless\, as seen in the picture below! \nTHE TEAMS: 10 pupils per year group\, from years 3/4. Schools can enter groups in one or both year groups. \nEVENT FORMAT \nDisney inspired Shooting Stars by England Football is made up of two initiatives; Active Play Through Story Telling and Girls’ Football Clubs\, both have been developed to support the engagement of girls aged 5-11 years old in sport at school and in the home.\nThis event will be a celebration for all the girls currently involved in this programme or new to football.\nSchools to bring own set of bibs in case of team colour clashes.\nTwo sessions will run consecutively then the groups will swap sessions.\nSession 1 – skill based circuit\nSession 2 – small sided tournament \nShould you wish to register your attendance\, please email bh@gssn.co.uk. DESCRIPTION:All our schools are invited to take part in our Key Steps 3 Gymnastics Competition for Years 5 & 6.\n\nEVENT OVERVIEW\nWednesday 24th March\n9.30-12.30\nGloucester Academy – access to the sports hall via the Cotteswold Road car park school entrance. GL4 6RG \nTHE TEAMS\nThis competition is for students in Years 5 and 6.\nTeams will be made up of 6 gymnasts (teams can be a mix of boys and girls).\nAll 6 gymnasts will compete\, with the top 5 scores counting towards the team score. Teams need to be made up of children who receive no more than 1 hour of community gymnastics club coaching per week  (including tumbling\,  cheerleading or any other form of gymnastics  sport /discipline). This is not a competition for gymnasts who already receive development coaching and perform in a competitive structure outside school.\nNB: The organisers will be reliant upon the professional discretion of schools to ensure this directive is adhered to. \nEVENT LEAD\nGlen Tharia\, Headteacher of Elmbridge Primary School will be supporting the GSSN staff with the delivery of this gymnastics competition. \nEVENT FORMAT\nFollowing the National Framework for Gymnastics\, this competition will be delivered using the Key Step 3 Gymnastics format.\nCompetitors will perform a floor sequence and a vault. A separate body management routine is not required; however\, schools are encouraged to practise body management as part of their warm-up. The vault will be set at a height of 100cm.\nSchools are required to submit the names of all competitors prior to the competition. DESCRIPTION:We would like to invite our schools to take part in our 13th annual ‘Quicksticks’ Hockey Tournaments. \nWe run 2 tournaments based on your pupils levels of skills and confidence. \nBoth events (Mobberley Cup & Plate Competition) will run alongside on Friday 23 April at The Kings School\, Archdeacon Meadow GL1 2TF\, from 9.30-13.00\nTo book your school’s place\, please email Belén at bh@gssn.co.uk. \nTEAM ELIGIBILITY\nThe Mobberley Cup is for your school’s first-choice / strongest team and is the main Quicksticks Hockey competition.\nThe Plate Tournament is designed for your school’s less experienced team\, giving players the opportunity to compete in a more appropriate and supportive competition. \nPlease note: If your school is participating in the GPSFA Hockey League\, your first team must enter the main Mobberley Cup competition. Schools may enter additional teams in the Plate Tournament. \nEVENT LEAD \nThe King’s School Sport Leaders will be supporting the GSSN with the running of the Tournaments\n\nEVENT FORMAT\nThe Mobberley Cup and Plate Tournaments will run alongside on the same day.\n4-a-side with up to 2 substitutes\, using rolling replacements at any time.\nMatches start with a centre (free) pass from the half way line\, which must be played backwards. Opponents must be at least 3 metres back and in their own half.\nGoals can only be scored from inside the opponent’s half. A penalty goal is scored a player deliberately prevents the ball crossing the goal line using their feet or body.\nA free pass is awarded for any of the incidents below and are indirect (goals cannot be scored directly from them). Opponents must be at least 3 metres away from the free pass. If an offence occurs within 5 metres of the goal\, the free pass is taken at a point 5 metres from the goal.\nStudents need to wear proper trainers and MUST wear shin guards.\nSchools should bring their own equipment if possessed (hockey sticks & Quicksticks balls) and a set of bibs. SUMMARY:PANATHLON SEND ATHLETICS FESTIVAL
DESCRIPTION:The Panathlon Foundation\, working in partnership with the GSSN\, will be running the Athletics Festival.  Panathlon runs many of these events across the country as it tries to engage new children in a sporting activity. \nTHE TEAMS\nThis competition is for SEND primary-aged children from Years 2 to 6\nall of whom have a Special Educational Need or Disability. Schools are welcome to bring as many or as few pupils as they wish. There is no requirement to enter every event\, allowing pupils to take part in activities that best suit their abilities and needs.  All participants will receive a Panathlon medal. \nEVENT FORMAT\nTRACK EVENTS: Hurdles\, sprint races and relays for boys and girls.\nDistances by Year Groups: Year 2 40m\, Year 3 50m\, Year 4 60m\, Year 5 70m\,\nYear 6 70m and 200m combined year 5/6 boys and girls individual races.\nFIELD EVENTS: Shotput\, quoit\, speed bounce and standing long jump.\nAdditional information Each pupil will receive a participation certificate and a medal. 1 boy and 1 girl per event. There is no maximum limit to the number of events that a pupil can take part in. Schools can enter all or some of the events on offer. Relay teams will consist of 4 children of the same gender\, but can be mixed years groups. For throwing events\, pupils will be allowed 2 attempts. The speed bounce will be timed 20 seconds. The long jump will be standing jump onto a mat. This is a non-competitive festival and therefore no results will be recorded. \nSEND events are aimed specifically at SEND students. There is an expectation that participants DO NOT compete for the school in any other non-SEND linked sport. The emphasis should be on encouraging participation for ALL young people\, particularly those that do not usually get an opportunity to represent their school.  \nTo send a team\, schools please email bh@gssn.co.uk

The event will begin with a carousel of cricket skill stations focusing on batting technique\, bowling control and accuracy\, fielding skills\, catching and throwing and communication and teamwork.
