SUMMARY:CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS (SMALL SCHOOLS)
DESCRIPTION:All GSSN-affiliated schools are invited to our Cross Country Championships which is scheduled to take place in Holmleigh Park High School. \nSmall Schools’ event on Wednesday 19th November\nLarge Schools’ event on Thursday 20th November  \nPlease take note of the earlier starting time at 9.30. We will finish by 13.30 on both days. \nSchools are to confirm their attendance by Tuesday 7th November by emailing bh@gssn.co.uk \nIf you require any further information\, please do not hesitate in contacting us. \nEVENT LEAD \nThe GSSN staff will be leading this event with the support of  Holmleigh Park High School Sport Leaders. \nTHE TEAMS\nThere are ten races split into five age categories for boys and girls to compete in\, both individually and as a team.\nA school team will consist of a minimum of 4 athletes in each of the races.\nA grater or fewer number of athletes can compete as individuals. \nRACE ORDER\n1st – Year 2 Boys followed by Year 2 Girls\n2nd – Year 3 Boys followed by Year 3 Girls\n3rd – Year 4 Boys followed by Year 4 Girls\n4th – Year 5 Boys followed by Year 5 Girls\n5th– Year 6 Boys followed by Year 6 Girls \nThe distances to be run will be approximately:\n–   1280m / 0.8 miles for Year 2\n–   1280m / 0.8 miles for Year 3\n–   1920m / 1.2 miles for Year 4\n–   2560m / 1.5 miles for Year 5\n–   2560m / 1.5 miles for Year 6 \nThe course is clearly marked out and the children will follow a hare around the course. \nFormat of the day\n9.30 Schools arrive / Registration\n10.00 First race: Year 2 Boys\n13.30 Winners’ presentations & schools depart \nRules\n· Each competitor will be given a number on completion of the course. This number must be recorded on the envelope next to the competitor’s name by a member of staff and placed inside the envelope.\n· The lowest 4 (fastest) athlete’s scores in each race will count towards the school results.\n· The school with the lowest total when girls’ and boys’ results in each category are added up will be the overall winner.\n· When the envelope has been completed for each race it must be totaled up and immediately handed into the results table for recording.\n· Boys will run first in each age category\, Year 2 first\, Year 3 second\, and so on with the last race Year 6 girls.\n· Schools are asked to wait for presentations at the end of all races.\n· Trophies will be awarded to the top school in each gender combined age category and framed certificates to 2nd and 3rd.\n· The top 3 athletes boys and girls in each race will receive medals.\n· All participants will receive a certificate.\n· Spikes are allowed\n· Photographs will be taken throughout this event. Please make us aware on the day of any children who cannot have their photographs taken.\n· Pupils to bring warm clothing\, waterproofs\, water\, and snacks. Due to the nature of this event pupils will be waiting long periods during other races\, teachers please prepare them for this. \nQualification to County level: Cheryl Stennett will provide training sessions (dates TBC) for the top 15 boys and top 15 girls from the Year 5 and 6 races and the top 5 in the Year 4 races. These training sessions will take place at the Oxstalls playing fields next to the University Arena which is accessed via Plock Court (Tewkesbury Road). Athletes will be selected to represent Gloucester City as a combined team at the County final.

SUMMARY:PANATHLON DISABILITY / SEND SWIMMING COMPETITION
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE CHANGE IN VENUE TO SIR THOMAS RICH’S SCHOOL FOR THIS\, AND FUTURE SEND GALAS. \n \nWe would like to invite all our affiliated schools to the Gloucester Schools’ Panathlon Swim Competition. \nThe event will be held at Sir Thomas Rich School\, GL2 0LF\, between 10 am and 12 noon. Please arrive between 9:30 am- 9.45 am to ensure you have time to change.  \nTHE TEAMS\nThis competition is for SEND primary-aged children (KS2 only).\nEach team should be made up of between 6 and 8 students of mixed gender with cognitive or physical disabilities. \nEVENT LEAD \nThe Panathlon Foundation\, working in partnership with the GSSN\, will be running the competition.  Panathlon runs many of these events across the country as it tries to engage new children in a sporting activity. \nEVENT FORMAT \nAll competing students must be able to swim 10m with or without swimming aids. Each student who competes for the team will be allocated points at the beginning of the competition based on their disability. Please note the aim is to involve students who wouldn’t normally get the chance to compete for their school.\nEach team must include 2 swimmers capable of swimming 25m unaided. All races are mixed gender\, age & disability. Note that there will be leaders in the water who can support students.\nAll competitors will receive a participation certificate and a medal. Special Panathlon medals will be awarded to the overall team result—1st\, Gold\, 2nd Silver and 3rd Bronze.\nSEND events are aimed specifically at SEND students. There is an expectation that participants DO NOT compete for the school in any other non-SEND linked sport. SUMMARY:KS1 GIRLS TAG RUGBY FESTIVAL
DESCRIPTION:This is a fun introduction to tag rugby in a girl’s only environment. There will be a range of activities set up for the girls to practise the core skills of catch\, pass\, run\, the introduction of tag as a tackle and learn what a game of Tag Rugby is.  A fun\, safe and inclusive environment\, allowing individual’s to enjoy the fundamentals of rugby whilst developing personal and social skills. Last year’s event saw over 200 girls taking part! A huge success! \nEVENTS OVERVIEW\nKS2: Wed 22nd October\nKS1: Thurs 23rd October\n9.30 -11.30 \nVENUE\nGordon League\nHempsted Lane\, Gloucester\nGL2 5JN \nTHE TEAMS\nAs this is a skills based event schools are welcome to bring up to 30 girls\nin each of the Festivals. \nEVENT LEAD\nThe GSSN Staff along with Gordon League and  Ribston Hall High School Sport Leaders will be leading this event. \nGordon League Rugby Club\, located in Hempsted\, is excited to host schools for a fun\, friendly\, and safe Girls’ Rugby Festival\, aimed at inspiring young girls to stay active\, build confidence\, and develop a passion for rugby. Beyond the festival\, the club supports schools by offering free rugby coaching\, access to facilities\, and free memberships for pupils entitled to Free School Meals. As the first and only club on the south side of the city to provide “Girls-only Rugby” for primary school-aged girls and soon introducing T1 Rugby—a non-contact format created with World Rugby—Gordon League Rugby Club is committed to inclusivity and fostering the next generation of female rugby enthusiasts. SUMMARY:KS1 & KS2 SEND TENPIN BOWLING FESTIVAL
DESCRIPTION:We would like to offer our schools the opportunity to attend our KS1 & KS2 Tenpin Bowling Festivals at Centre Severn in Barnwood\, GL4 3HR. \nTo accommodate more schools\, we will run a Key Stage 2 session in the morning\, and a Key Stage 1 in the afternoon. The timings will be as follows: \nAM KS2 – Schools arrive by 10.15 am (do not arrive earlier as premises do not open until 10) & Finish by 12.15 pm \nPM KS1 – Schools arrive by 12.45 pm (or earlier if they would like to have lunch before) & Finish by 2.30 pm\n  \nEvent Lead\nThe Panathlon Foundation working in partnership with the Gloucester School Sports Network will be running a Tenpin Bowling competition for SEND primary-aged children.\nPanathlon runs many of these days across the country and is trying to engage new children in a sporting activity.  \nThe Teams\nEntries are limited to a maximum of 6 students per school team. No fewer than 4 children per team.\nThe event is open to any child on the SEND register from KS1 or KS2.\nStudents will be able to play 1 game for competition points (the game lasts roughly an hour and 10- 15 minutes)\nAt the end of the competition\, there will be a presentation for the students with medals and certificates. \nSchools wishing to send a team\, email bh@gssn.co.uk indicating your preferred session.

DESCRIPTION:All GSSN schools are invited to our Table Tennis Competition. \nTHE TEAMS\nThis competition is for boys and girls in Key Stage 2.\n4 boys and 4 girls—any age and any ability. \nEVENT LEAD \nThe GSSN staff will be leading this event with the support of Upton St Leonards C of E Primary School staff. \nEVENT FORMAT \nPlayers will be seeded 1 \, 2\, 3 and 4 -this will be their playing order.\nAll competitors will receive a certificate with medals being awarded to the top three placed schools.\nRULES\n Each player will play an individual singles match against their opposite ranked player.\n Players will also play one doubles match. (1 and 2 verses 1 and 2\, and 3 and 4 verses 3 and 4)\n The boy’s and girls’ results will be totalled together\, and the team winning the most games will win overall.\n Each game will be played to 11 points with alternate serves every two points.\n A serve that touches the net is a ‘Let’.

You will be debating on the question below. \n“Is the commonwealth relevant in today’s society?” \nThe Primary school’s event will be open to year 5 and 6 pupils\, taking place from 10.00-12.00 on Thursday 12th May at the University Indoor Arena\, Plock Court GL2 9DW.  \nThe competition format will include an initial proposal followed by an opposing response; one further round of proposal and response followed by questions from the floor and judging panel. (Each proposal/response will be no longer than 2 minutes). DESCRIPTION:We are running a Commonwealth Games Art Poster virtual Art Competition\, the theme is the values of the games which are;  Humanity\, Equality\, and Destiny.\n\nWe want inspirational designs\, with uplifting messages and captivating ideas.\n\nFor our Primary schools\, this competition is open to all year groups\, and for our secondary schools\, it is open to Year 7 and 8 pupils. All entries are due by Monday 4th April at 12.00 at the latest.\n \nSchools send your entries directly to Cheryl at cs@gssn.co.uk\, Jpeg\, or pdf\, all winners will have their posters published on our GSSN website\, Twitter account and receive a certificate in recognition of their achievement. DESCRIPTION:DATE: Tuesday 17th January 2023 \nVENUE: University Indoor Arena\, Oxtalls Sports Park\, Plock Court\, off Tewkesbury Road\, GL2 9DW \nMORNING SESSION KS1: Schools arrive: 9.45 am & Finish/schools depart: 11.45 pm \nAFTERNOON SESSION KS2: Schools arrive: 12.30 pm & Finish/schools depart: 2.30 pm \nSchools wishing to send a team to this event\, email bh@gssn.co.uk. Indicate preferred session (AM KS1 and/or PM KS2); the name of the teacher responsible for this event and contact details. \nEvent Lead\nThe Panathlon Challenge team is supporting the GSSN with the running of the event. \nThe Teams\nThis competition is for boys and girls from KS2\, all of whom have a Special Educational Need or Disability. \nTeams must be mixed and consist of 8 young people. \nSEND competitions are aimed specifically at SEND students. There is an expectation that participants DO NOT compete for the school in any other non-SEND linked sport.  The emphasis should be on encouraging participation for ALL young people\, particularly those that do not usually get an opportunity to represent their school. \nFestival Format\nThis event is a series of skills stations based on inclusive sports such as Basketball\, Boccia\, Football\, New Age Kurling\, and Table Top Cricket. Others include activities that are aimed at developing key fundamentals such as running\, jumping\, throwing\, and target-based games. \nEach team must collect points from each activity station. Specific Panathlon Challenge Medals will be awarded for 1st Gold\, 2nd Silver\, and 3rd Bronze (overall team).  \nThere are also participation medals for teams in 4th\, 5th\, and 6th… etc.
