We feel extremely fortunate to be able to collaborate with organisations such as Panathlon Challenge. Panathlon is a national charity which gives young people with disabilities and special educational needs every year the opportunity to take part in competitive sport. In 2022/23, a record 62,981 pupils participated in their events – either competitions held externally with other schools or in-school through our Virtual Programme.
All our affiliated schools will be able to send a group of SEND-registered children to the following events:
EVENT OVERVIEW
Thursday 16th January
KS1 9.45 – 11.45
KS2 12.30-14.30
THE TEAMS
This competition is for SEND primary-aged children (KS1 and KS2).
Entries are limited to a maximum of 6 students per school team.
Teams must be mixed and consist of 8 young people.
EVENT FORMAT
This event is a series of skills stations based on inclusive sports such as Boccia, New-Age Kurling, Football, Basketball and Table Cricket. Others include activities that are aimed at developing key fundamentals such as running, jumping, throwing and target-based games. Each team must collect points from each activity station.
All competitors will receive a participation certificate and a special Panathlon medal. Position medals will be awarded to the overall team result—1st, Gold, 2nd Silver and 3rd Bronze.
SEND events are aimed specifically at SEND students. There is an expectation that participants DO NOT compete for the school in any other non-SEND linked sport. The emphasis should be on encouraging participation for ALL young people, particularly those that do not usually get an opportunity to represent their school.
