PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE CHANGE IN VENUE TO SIR THOMAS RICH’S SCHOOL FOR THIS, AND FUTURE SEND GALAS.
We would like to invite all our affiliated schools to the Gloucester Schools’ Panathlon Swim Competition.
The event will be held at Sir Thomas Rich School, GL2 0LF, between 10 am and 12 noon. Please arrive between 9:30 am- 9.45 am to ensure you have time to change.
THE TEAMS
This competition is for SEND primary-aged children (KS1 and KS2).
Each team should be made up of between 6 and 8 students of mixed gender with cognitive or physical disabilities.
EVENT LEAD
The Panathlon Foundation, working in partnership with the GSSN, will be running the competition. Panathlon runs many of these events across the country as it tries to engage new children in a sporting activity.
EVENT FORMAT
All competing students must be able to swim 10m with or without swimming aids. Each student who competes for the team will be allocated points at the beginning of the competition based on their disability. Please note the aim is to involve students who wouldn’t normally get the chance to compete for their school.
Each team must include 2 swimmers capable of swimming 25m unaided. All races are mixed gender, age & disability. Note that there will be leaders in the water who can support students.
All competitors will receive a participation certificate and a medal. Special Panathlon medals will be awarded to the overall team result—1st, Gold, 2nd Silver and 3rd Bronze.
SEND events are aimed specifically at SEND students. There is an expectation that participants DO NOT compete for the school in any other non-SEND linked sport. The emphasis should be on encouraging participation for ALL young people, particularly those that do not usually get an opportunity to represent their school.
Please email bh@gssn.co.uk to register your school’s attendance.
