ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS – Small & Large Schools’ (rescheduled event June 26)

We are delighted to invite all affiliated schools to our rescheduled GSSN Athletics Championships, taking place on Thursday 24 September at the Prince of Wales Stadium, Cheltenham.

To maximise participation and create an exciting atmosphere, Small Schools and Large Schools will compete together throughout the day. Results, however, will be calculated separately for each category, with individual medals and overall team trophies awarded to both the Small Schools and Large Schools competitions.

The championships will provide pupils with the opportunity to compete in a range of track and field events while representing their school in one of the highlights of the GSSN sporting calendar.

THE TEAMS
This competition is open to pupils from Years 3—6.
Individual track events will require 1 boy and 1 girl from each year group. Relays teams are mixed and will require 2 boys and 2 girls from each year group.
Field events will require, 1 boy and 1 girl per year group in each of the events

EVENT LEAD
The GSSN staff will be leading this event with the support of Ribston Hall High School Sport Leaders.

EVENT FORMAT
IN THE TRACK—For Years 3 to 6: Boys and Girls:
Hurdles, Sprint races, Relays (mixed gender) Year 5/6 300m
ON THE FIELD—For Year 3/4 and 5/6 (combined):Boys and Girls
Quoit throw / Tennis Ball Throw / Speed bounce / Long jump

Spectators/parents are welcome to attend. There will be a separated designated area for spectators.
Please can schools ensure that they arrive promptly for a 9.30 start.
Where event times clash, track events will take priority over field events.
1 boy and 1 girl per event – there is no maximum to the number of events that each pupil can take part in. 4 pupils for each relay team. 2 boys and 2 girls in each year group. Schools can include pupils from the year below – a pupil from Year 3 can run with the Year 4’s relay team.
The speed bounce will be for 20 seconds.
For throwing events pupils will be allowed 2 attempts.
The long Jump will be a run into the board.
